The federal government of Brazil has unveiled a new online system through which importers of medicinal CBD products will place their orders and track the progress of the products sourced from outside the country.
Starting next month, patients will also be able to use the portal, called Anvisa, to place their orders for any CBD products that they require from abroad. This will ease the process of getting authorization to import the desired products, and an unprecedented level of transparency will be brought to the entire process.
In the past, there have been complaints that some importers were getting preferential treatment from the authorities, so this online portal will help to address those concerns by making every step of the process digital.
The creation of the online portal will also strengthen the regulation of the CBD products entering the country. This is because only products from clearly defined sources and manufacturers will be cleared by the online system.
The online portal is also expected to expedite the importation process since there will be fewer bureaucratic steps that the importer has to navigate. For example, documents used to be opened manually and analyzed before a consignment could be cleared by customs.
With the online portal now operational, everything can be completed online so that by the time the consignment gets to an entry point all that is left is to verify that the items packed match what is reflected in the papers submitted into the online system.
CBD Vida, one of the local companies that have been importing CBD into Brazil, welcomed the creation of the government portal. Fabio Candello, the CEO of CBD Vida, was excited that it was now going to be possible for the company to deliver products to the patients who need them in a shorter time than they were able to in the past.
Candello also stated that patients would now be able to track the progress of their order, and this will reduce the work that CBD Vida had to do to keep responding to queries from frantic patients asking how soon a needed product would be delivered.
It remains to be seen how well the system will cope with the expected huge amount of traffic on the site as thousands or even millions of patients log in to place their orders or track a package that is in transit.
Many experts are of the view that CBD industry players like VIVO Cannabis Inc. (TSX.V: VIVO) (OTCQX: VVCIF) and VPR Brands LP (OTCQB: VPRB) would have suggested that it was better to put in place mechanisms so that most CBD products are manufactured locally, so that patients don’t have to spend weeks waiting for an imported medicinal product to arrive.
