CBD and Hemp Cigarette to Help Vapers Quit

It seems like there’s nothing the hemp extract cannabidiol (CBD) cannot do. Every day someone discovers a new use for it. Recently, Aspen-based cannabis brand Toast launched a new line of CBD pre-rolls you can smoke like a cigarette, but without the tobacco. Instead, they are made with CBD and hemp, and doctors say they can be less addictive than nicotine.

“It’s not going to be addictive,” says Dr. Jordan Tishler, a medical expert at Green Flower Media, and President of the Association of Cannabis Specialists, ” a lot of the problems we have with tobacco is if you smoke enough of it, and you’re predisposed, you’re not going to stop. That’s unlikely to happen with hemp since there’s nothing in hemp that we’re aware of that makes people dependent. If you ask me would I rather have my teen smoke hemp, smoke tobacco or vape a Juul,” he adds, “I’d rather she do none of the above, but the hemp cigarette seems like the least dangerous of the three because it has no nicotine.”

According to former Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, tobacco use costs nearly $300 billion a year in direct health care and lost productivity. Furthermore, 480,000 Americans die each year from tobacco use. Vaping has also been racking up quite the negative points. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported at least 18 confirmed deaths and 1,080 cases across 48 states in the U.S., with roughly 17% of people saying they were vaping nicotine.

Cannabis brand Toast’s new line of CBD pre-rolls comes at a time when demand for such products is on the rise. Dr. Tishler says that although CBD can’t be used to treat nicotine addiction, some smokers seem to be using hemp. A survey of more than 5,000 CBD users carried out by Bright Field Group found that more than 24% have used it to quit smoking and replace cigarettes with smoking hemp or vaping. According to the report, 41% have replaced tobacco entirely with hemp CBD.

The hemp pre-rolls are made with 100 mg of CBD, and they are rolled in organic hemp paper with a wood pulp filter. Toast’s website claims that they contain no additives, pesticides, or chemicals and that each hemp pre-roll is hand-inspected for quality before packaging. A pack of two pre-rolls will set you back a cool $18.

It would be interesting to hear what CBD industry companies like Marijuana Company of America Inc. (OTCQB: MCOA) and Hemptown USA have to say about these new CBD pre-rolls.
