Cincinnati Entrepreneur Debuts Mobile CBD Smoke Shop

There’s a lot of love for hemp extract cannabidiol (CBD) these days. The chemical has enjoyed a year of legal sales, with experts saying that it will be worth $20 billion in sales by 2024. Despite there being little scientific evidence to prove it, users claim CBD is effective against a range of ailments, from high blood pressure and chronic pain to anxiety.

The 2018 Farm Bill was instrumental in the growth of the industry. The legislation made industrial hemp legal, thus allowing the marketing and sale of hemp and its extracts, including CBD. However, due to lax regulations, tons of sellers flooded the industry, resulting in a market filled with thousands of products.

Nathaniel Brooks, a Cincinnati resident, has found a way to stand out from the pack and give his products an extra boost. He sells CBD products, but instead of using a static shop, he loads his wares onto a food truck and drives around, just like an ice cream truck.

His truck, covered with neon signs and a ‘SMOKE’ sign, makes it clear that he doesn’t sell ice cream. Brooks sells hemp, CBD and other smoke products, as well as edibles and an assortment of drinks and snacks.

He first entered the smoke shop business five years ago with a brick and mortar location in Camp Washington dubbed ‘LoBlow’. The idea for a mobile smoke shop was born to accommodate the industry’s changing landscape. “I was watching a video on YouTube, and it said entrepreneurs should be thinking five, ten years ahead,” he explains.

The truck, Lo, offers him the mobility and freedom that a static shop would never have. He can set up shop in public spaces like downtown’s Fountain Square and at big events like Oktoberfest. On top, of that, it allows him to deliver products ordered during the week.

“I want to bring the products to the people, especially the CBD products. That is something that helps people with pain,” he says.

Cannabidiol has shown a great affinity for pain relief, with 14% of Americans who use CBD products doing so to relieve their aches and pains.

Just like the ice cream trucks of old, he has installed a speaker system that will play jingles during summer months, and that way, anyone will be able to flag him down.

“I wanted to reinvent this. I thought, let me do this the way I was younger, but adult style.”

Experts say such new twists to old concepts of selling products are a breath of fresh air to cannabidiol companies, such as Hemptown USA and The Supreme Cannabis Company Inc. (TSX.V: FIRE) (OTCQX: SPRWF), who welcome all ways that make it easier for the man or woman on the street to access CBD products.
