Does CBD Heighten Sexual Arousal?

Cannabinoids are presenting an entirely new and exciting front in medicine. This unique group of chemicals is produced by cannabis, and they have a diverse range of medical properties. Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the major cannabinoids, and it’s currently the face of cannabis’ medical revolution.

Most of the evidence of CBD’s medical abilities is anecdotal, and although there’s little scientific research to prove it, users swear by CBD, saying it’s effective against a variety of medical conditions ranging from anxiety and insomnia to high blood pressure and chronic pain.

Marijuana, the psychoactive version of cannabis, has earned a reputation as a sort of aphrodisiac, and naturally, the same attention has been turned to CBD. Let’s see what the research says about it.

CBD, like all cannabinoids, interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a nervous system that helps regulate pain, sleep, and most importantly, reproduction and fertility. The system consists of cannabinoids produced by the body and two types of receptors spread across the body.

Due to this, cannabidiol interacts uniquely with the body, boosting the ECS and helping it perform its duties more effectively. We all know what stress and anxiety can do to libido, and that’s where cannabidiol comes in.

A number of studies have found that sexual organs have a healthy number of receptors. A 2017 article from the U.S. National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health says that cannabidiol’s anti-inflammatory properties could lead to increased pleasurable sensitivity, leading to a more pleasurable experience.

The hemp extract is known for its anti-anxiety properties, with a large number of Americans who use CBD doing so to relieve anxiety. It’s been found to work against various types of anxiety, and this makes it a good candidate. Half the time, your mind is worrying about other issues, but a dose of CBD will help center you and focus your mind.

Anxiety about sexual performance is also a major cause of reduced libido. A 2017 Harvard Health Publishing article says that stress has a particularly deleterious effect on libido, especially in women. A dose of CBD could help reduce the feelings of anxiety and increase sex drive.

However, most of the studies on CBD’s impact on sexual health aren’t conclusive enough, with most of the evidence being anecdotal. According to a study published in a 2015 National Institute on Drug Abuse article, “CBD has shown therapeutic efficacy in a range of animal models of anxiety and stress, reducing both behavioral and psychological markers. Rigorous clinical studies are still needed to evaluate the clinical potential of CBD.”

Analysts see these preliminary findings as proof that what the CBD industry, including players like Plus Products Inc. (CSE: PLUS) (OTCQX: PLPRF), has always believed that the benefits of CBD are so far reaching that it spreads to all aspects of life.
