The residents of Central Indiana will be happy to know that a sizeable company intends to bring over 100 new job opportunities to the community. In its announcement, Indiana-based BDX Indiana recently said that over a third of those positions would be at a planned hemp extraction facility in Westfield. BDX is a sister company of Biodynamic Ventures, and it extracts CBD from hemp grown in Indiana.
The CBD manufacturer produces what is referred to as full spectrum dissolute products. It uses hemp grown in Indian by Hoosier farmers. Ken Thieneman, BDX-Indiana President, says that the CBD extract will be sold both regionally and nationally. “With our experienced partners, we plan to meet the growing demand for hemp products while creating jobs for the City of Westfield and the State of Indiana.”
Westfield has been quick to welcome the company and the opportunities it brings. Westfield Mayor Andy Cook says that the city has seen the growth and innovation of the CBD oil industry, and that ‘now Westfield will play a major role in its future.”
According to the city, the phase one build-out of the $50 million project is expected to start this month, with production beginning in December. Phase two of the project will begin in March. The Westfield City Council approved a tax abatement for the first phase last month, with Mayor Cook stating that “BDX-Indiana brings a lot of opportunities to our city,” adding that the city will support the agriculture production and the extraction innovation.
BDX-Indiana President Thieneman says that in 2019, the company grew a million clones and seedlings, and those plants were sold to 26 contracted farmers. Currently, farmers are harvesting the 350 acres of the crop planted from the seed. “When we interviewed and selected our farmers,” he says, “we only let them plant 10, 20 or 40 acre plots the first year, because there’s been a massive learning curve from that point.” He adds that the company has already signed up over 3,500 acres for next year’s planting season.
Workers have been drying hemp plants at a 63,000 square foot facility the company has on the Southside of Indianapolis. They will be ground and placed in cold storage afterward, in preparation for CBD extraction. Thieneman says that the BDX and sister company Venture Biodynamics will take advantage of the budding industry, and plans to become the largest CBD oil extractor in the nation.
Experts opine that CBD companies like Sugarmade Inc. (OTCQB: SGMD) and Wildflower Brands Inc. (CSE: SUN) (OTCQB: WLDFF) are pleased that different far flung communities are starting to see major investments that will bring jobs, taxes and other benefits.
