Panel to Discuss CBD Bedding During Furniture Conference

Cannabidiol, a chemical extracted from hemp, is taking the world completely by storm. Commonly known as CBD, it is one of over 100 cannabinoids produced by hemp, and it is flush with potent medicinal properties. Users claim it’s effective against everything from anxiety and chronic pain to high blood pressure and insomnia. Though a lot of these claims haven’t been scientifically proven yet, users still swear by CBD, and companies have taken notice.

These days, you’ll find CBD in a ton of products, from simple edibles to hemp-infused beverages, spirits, and garments. Using new and innovative technologies, companies have been able to invent new lines of CBD-infused products. One of these new products is CBD bedding.

The Las Vegas Market was graced by at least half a dozen bedding and sleep accessories producers offering CBD products, and like most products associated with cannabidiol, the number is expected to grow. Therapedic, one of the firms at the Las Vegas Market, debuted a three number mattress line featuring CBD-infused foam and covers.

“Currently, CBD is an unregulated supplement, but studies have been published claiming it has been clinically proven to induce calmness and has been used in treating insomnia. Who wouldn’t want that in a mattress?” asks Therapedic CEO Gerry Borreggine.

The Furniture Today Bedding Conference set for May 13-15 will feature a panel discussing CBD bedding products, especially about the category’s growth prospects.

Panelists at the bedding conference will include Shane Mutter, National Sales and Marketing Director at Seed2System, a CBD supplier; Susan Mathes, Vice President of brand relations at Therapedic the first Top 10 bedding producer to offer a CBD mattress line, and Scott Carr, Marketing Director for Malouf, a bedding, home furnishings, and sleep accessories resource which introduced a CBD pillow line.

“As a former executive in the home furnishings industry, I am drawing on that experience to introduce hemp products and services to this category as well as many others,” says Mutter, who was previously the president and CEO of his family’s 80 plus-year-old home furnishings business, Doerr Furniture.

“I see growth in the hemp industry reaching exponential numbers in the coming years, and I want to take the lead in becoming an education resource to consumers as well as others interested in joining this industry.”

Mathes, on the other hand, has worked at Therapedic for more than a decade, and she is the vice-chair of The Better Sleep Council, the consumer-education arm of the International Sleep Products Assn.

Scott Carr runs marketing and public relations at Malouf, playing a vital role in the ideation and execution of Malouf’s marketing initiatives in both retail locations and digital platforms.

The CBD panel is scheduled for May 14, the full day of educational sessions at the Bedding Conference, and registration for the conference is now open at BeddingCon.com.

It is possible that established sector players like HTC Extraction Systems (TSX.V: HTC) (OTCQB: HTPRF) are also surprised by the frequency with which different industries are finding ways to use CBD in their products.
