3 Psychedelic Documentaries You Can Watch on YouTube

May 9, 2022 12:53:27

New articles on psychedelic substances and their numerous uses in the field of medicine are being published every day in different parts of the world. As researchers discover more about psychedelics and the numerous benefits they hold, interest in these substances is growing.

If you aren’t keen on reading medical journals to learn more about psychedelics but you’d still like to know more, here are some psychedelic documentaries you can watch on YouTube.

True Hallucinations

This experimental film, which is almost three hours long, is a tribute to the late philosopher Terence McKenna. McKenna spoke on and wrote about various subjects, including plant-based entheogens and psychedelic substances, generally advocating for the use of psychedelics.

The film is a collection of video and audio footage of McKenna discussing his mystical psilocybin experiences. It also documents the philosopher’s charismatic personality and existence. The film was created by Peter Bergmann, who described it as a deep dive into the mind of McKenna.

Woman Spirit

This 1978 film features Maria Sabina, a Mazatec shaman, who talks about her connection to magic mushrooms. Sabina, who introduced R. Gordon Wasson to magic mushrooms, is also captured carrying out a healing ceremony with her community in the film.

The poetic and quiet film was created by Nicolás Echevarría and released about ten years after a separate film known as Summer of Love had debuted.

This documentary showcases her outspoken personality and her way of life, capturing her deep connection to these sacred mushrooms. Sabina revealed that she first ingested the mushrooms with her sister when they were young. She explained that the mushrooms’ taste when she first consumed them was bitter, noting that they felt dizzy after a while. Later, she says, she learned that the mushrooms possessed power and could be used to cure illness and produce wisdom.

A New Understanding: The Science of Psilocybin

This one-hour documentary debuted in 2019 and looks into the use of psilocybin in the treatment of anxiety in terminally ill cancer patients who are nearing the end of their lives.

The film is comprised of testimonies of psychedelic researchers and scientists who are a part of these trials. It also features the subjects undergoing the therapy, which interweaves the spiritual experiences with scientific theories.

Psychedelics have come a long way since the ‘50s and ‘60s, before they were banned, and even after their ban in the 1970s, which led to them being classified as harmful substances with no medical value under the Controlled Substances Act. Today, the drug-development work being done by entities such as Silo Pharma Inc. (OTCQB: SILO) could soon show how unfounded the classification of psychedelics as substances with “no known medicinal use” really is.
