Why Scientists, Researchers Advocate for Decriminalization of Psychedelics

July 15, 2020 09:37:48

Even though many scientists and researchers are pushing for decriminalization of psychedelic substances, a few are against it. Last year saw a rise in psychedelics proponents advocating for its decriminalization. A number of cities in the United States have already achieved this goal. Denver, Colorado approved the use of psilocybin mushrooms while Oakland and Santa Cruz in California decriminalized psychedelic plants and fungi.

Why Chronic Psychedelic Microdosing May Not Be Appropriate

July 14, 2020 14:47:11

Clinical trials of macro dosage of psychedelics have revealed positive results. However, the same can’t be said of chronic microdosing. Users need to be aware of possible risks involved with continuous heavy use of psychedelics as researchers are working on determining the balance between the risks and benefits of psychedelic treatment.

One of the key things that are coming up is the risk of heart diseases, specifically Valvular Heart Disease (“VHD”). Psychedelics work by activating the serotonin 2B receptor and some scientists…

Comparing DMT and Ayahuasca

July 14, 2020 09:05:32

Ayahuasca and DMT are often compared side by side because one is part of the other. DMT is one of the components present in Ayahuasca. Even though they seem similar, they have different effects. Also, take note that both of these substances are currently prohibited by law in many countries, including the U.S.

However, Ayahuasca is popular in South America and the surrounding Amazon areas as the drug is associated with healing and providing new beginnings. It’s a brew of tea made from Psychotria leaves and Banisteriopsis caapi: a common ingredient in traditional…

PsychedelicNewsBreaks – Cybin Corp. and IntelGenx Corp. to Collaborate in Development of Fast-Acting Psilocybin Film

July 7, 2020 12:37:26

Cybin Corp., Canada’s premier mushroom life sciences company focused on advancing psychedelic and nutraceutical-based products derived from fungi, today announced its entry into a feasibility agreement with IntelGenx Corp. (OTCQB: IGXT) (TSX-V:IGX) for the development of an orally-dissolving film for the delivery of pharmaceutical-grade psilocybin, subject to receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals. “We at Cybin are proud to be working with IntelGenx to develop a fast-acting psilocybin film,” Cybin’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jukka Karjalainen, stated in the news release. “Compared to oral psilocybin capsules, which are subject to variable intestinal absorption and high first-pass metabolism in the liver, the systemic bioavailability of orally-dissolving psilocybin film is expected to be quite high. In addition, the dose of psilocybin administered by an orally-dissolving film is expected to be a fraction of what is required in oral capsules. Taken together, these features have the potential to increase both the safety and efficacy of psilocybin when administered in this manner.”

3 Novel Ways in Treating Addiction

July 2, 2020 10:05:31

Approximately 40 million people in the U.S. suffer from substance abuse disorders (SAD), and the number is expected to grow as other forms of addiction, such as gambling and video games, take a bigger toll on the population. New Poll Shows Most Canadians Support Legalizing Psilocybin for Terminally Ill Patients

July 1, 2020 14:22:43

New Product Could Flip the Switch on Bad LSD Trips

July 1, 2020 09:05:33

When you talk to a number of people who have ever consumed magic mushrooms and other plant-based psychedelic substances, you will inevitably encounter stories of “bad trips” characterized by feelings of entrapment, mild anxiety, terror, alienation and other such unpleasant effects. The risk of these “bad trips” scares a lot of people away from using psychedelics, and one psychedelic medicine company has come up with an invention that could neutralize and stop a bad LSD trip in its tracks.

Mind Medicine (NEO: MMED) (OTCQB: MMEDF) (“MindMed”), together with the Liechti Laboratory found at Basel University Hospital in Switzerland, are the entities behind the invention…

Psychedelic Stocks: Why Your Investment Portfolio Should Be Teeming With Them

June 30, 2020 15:05:59

This may sound unbelievable, but, despite the raging COVID-19 pandemic, great investment opportunities are still out there. By investment, we are not referring to companies which specialize in bulk-packaging toilet paper or churning out millions of gallons of sanitizer. Psychedelic medicine stocks are what we are talking about, and here are some compelling reasons why your investment portfolio needs to have these medicines.

You’d Be Getting in Early

Lots of people who invested in marijuana stocks are regretting their decision for one key reason; they joined the fray late in the game when marijuana stocks had nearly peaked, and the ongoing market correction…

Danish Researchers Discover Novel Way of Making Psilocybin from Kitchen Ingredient

June 30, 2020 09:05:51

Just as the immense potential of psilocybin is being recognized and accepted by the scientific community, researchers are already hard at work looking for new ways of making the chemical without having to rely on growing magic mushrooms on a large scale. To this end, a team of Danish researchers appears to have found an easy way to make this chemical by using yeast.

The DTU Biosustain scientists discovered that a common species of yeast used in winemaking, brewing and baking can act as a host for psilocybin when this yeast is subjected…

3 Key Reasons Why Psychedelics Could Upset Big Pharmaceuticals

June 29, 2020 15:40:32

The early results from clinical studies on psychedelics have shown that these substances have immense potential to treat a number of mental disorders, and this has in turn triggered a major shift in public perception regarding these substances. One industry that is likely to follow these developments with a lot of interest is the pharmaceutical industry. Several reasons could explain why they have more than a casual interest in psychedelics.

Psychedelics Could Cure Rather Than Provide Temporary Relief

The existing pharmaceutical medications for mental disorders offer temporary relief at best, and have no effect in lots of cases. Additionally, the side effects of those drugs…

Why Psychedelics Stocks May Currently Be Undervalued

June 29, 2020 09:35:31

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic sucker-punched the stock market, it was rather hard for investors to find worthwhile investment opportunities. It was therefore just a matter of time before a market correction occurred, and the coronavirus outbreak provided the trigger for this correction. However, as the markets nosedive, experienced investors know that such a correction presents new opportunities. One industry where there is huge potential for investors is the psychedelics sector.

Just like the marijuana industry, psychedelics represent a novel way to treat not just mental but also physical ailments. However, that may be where the comparisons…

Psychedelics-Centered Clinics: What You Need to Know

June 26, 2020 15:05:42

As a potential investor in psychedelics, you may be wondering how firms will generate meaningful revenues from this industry given that the pharmaceutical and biotech industries are investment-heavy. Well, the answer to this question seems to be that psychedelics companies that operate treatment clinics stand a higher chance of having a revenue edge over those that don’t have clinics.

Clinics are the logical way to go for psychedelic companies since, as anyone who has ever tried psychedelics will tell you, the psychedelic experience is a profound one that takes an individual on a journey into their own selves so that they get insights into what may be holding them back, or even uncover parts of themselves that had remained…

Colorado Nonprofit Launches Education Campaign about Psychedelics

June 26, 2020 09:05:47

“Let’s Talk about Psychedelics” is a campaign by The Nowak Society, a Colorado-based nonprofit focused on public sensitization on psychedelics. The Nowak Society has been making considerable strides in normalizing the previously nonexistent conversation on psychedelics.

On May 7, 2019, Denver became the first U.S. city to decriminalize the use of psilocybin mushrooms and other plant-based entheogens. This groundbreaking development can partly be attributed to The Society for Psychedelics Outreach Reform and Education (SPORE) having its roots

What Drives People to Use Psychedelic Substances

June 25, 2020 13:12:12

Hallucinogens are undoubtedly becoming more popular each day the world over. With the decriminalization of psilocybin and other plant-based entheogens in some cities such as Denver and Santa Cruz, one cannot help but wonder, ‘Why do people use psychedelic substances?’ Well, all the hype around psychedelics is not unfounded.

There are many psychedelic substances, from ‘magic’ mushrooms (which contain psilocybin) to Peyote (which contains DMT), to LSD, which all differ in their hallucinogenic intensity. However, they all have one important use, recreation. After a long, dull day of work or when you’re bored, eating some ‘magic’ mushrooms will guarantee you a good time and get your mind…

Psychedelics Could Treat Physical Health Conditions

June 25, 2020 09:05:20

There is a general consensus in the research community that psychedelics have immense potential in the treatment of mental health conditions. As more scientists have picked interest in these substances, it is also becoming apparent that the therapeutic role of psychedelics could extend to treating physical health conditions that aren’t connected to one’s mental state.

Take Your Pick: Synthetic Psilocybin or Magic Mushroom Pills?

June 24, 2020 14:05:29

Decades ago, psychedelics like “magic mushrooms” were viewed as the preserve of the counterculture crowd who would be spotted chomping away on woody stems and dry caps. Today, a new picture of laboratory-produced synthetic psilocybin pills is emerging and it could soon send the consumption mode of yesteryears into oblivion. How did we get here?

In 1963, Albert Hoffman, the Swiss scientist who synthesized LSD, received a small package containing 100 grams of magic mushrooms. This package was a gift from Maria Sabina, a Mazateca healer…

Mental Health Startup Aims to Help Patients Access Psychedelic Treatment

June 24, 2020 09:05:44

As the medical and scientific community embrace psychedelic treatment, and as regulators clear these treatments, a need has arisen to take prospective patients through the entire process so that they make informed decisions and know who to turn to for help. Osmind, a mental health startup, has risen to the occasion to provide the needed support.

Osmind aims at creating a community for people seeking psychedelic treatments which have FDA-approval. Currently, only ketamine has this regulatory approval, but industry insiders expect similar approval to be given to psilocybin and MDMA. Osmind is building an app as well as an online platform through which patients can learn about all available psychedelic treatments. The Osmind community…

A Look at the Potential of Psychedelics in Treating Bipolar Disorder

June 23, 2020 13:06:34

For decades, the general agreement within scientific circles has been that people with bipolar disorder should stay away from psychedelics as these substances could worsen their condition. The reasoning behind this recommendation has always been that psychedelics can trigger manic episodes in people with bipolar disorder, and that was too huge a risk to take.

This concern isn’t a myth as there are recorded cases of people going into a manic episode. Psychedelics tend to impact the serotonin system within the brain, and for people with bipolar, this could trigger

420 with PNW – 5 Expert Tips for First Time Psychedelics Users

June 16, 2020 03:25:42

As the drive to legalize psychedelics gains momentum in different U.S. cities and states, chances are you may want to try “magic mushrooms” and other psychedelics. Here are some handy expert tips that you need to keep in mind so that the experience is a fulfilling one.

Don’t Drive

Psychedelics can alter your perception of reality, and you don’t want to be in that mental space while driving. It is therefore prudent for you to have someone who will drive you back home so that you don’t get into any road accidents or other issues while driving under the influence of psychedelics.

Have a Buddy

Experts say different people have different reactions when they consume psychedelics. As a first-time user, you would be well advised to have a buddy who has more experience with these substances. In most cases, that buddy is usually a highly trained professional who can supervise your use of the psychedelics, especially if you are taking them for mental health purposes. In fact, companies like Pure Extracts Corp. encourage people to consume medicinal psychedelic products under medical supervision for maximum benefit.

Take Notes

It is advisable to have a notebook and pen with you when you take any psychedelic product. These items will enable you to take notes about your experience and you can later refer to those notes while you decide whether the psychedelics had the desired effects or not.

Taking notes is especially helpful for people who are using the psychedelics for medicinal purposes as those notes help you track your progress towards recovery.

Mind the Setting

It is best to consume psychedelics when you are in a safe environment, such as a medical practitioner’s office or in the comfort of your home. In this way, no disturbances will distract you while the products are having their effects on you. Also, wear comfortable clothing to minimize external stimuli which could detract from your experience.

Examine Your Mental State

Another aspect that you need to be aware of is where you are mentally as you are about to consume psychedelic products. You present and past emotional as well as mental health is important because psychedelics can precipitate or exacerbate any existing or latent mental disorders you may have. This is where professional supervision becomes crucial since the expert will know whether to recommend or advise against psychedelics given your past and present emotional/mental state.

All in all, a lot of research is currently ongoing to get a better understanding of how psychedelics can be used safely for medicinal and functional purposes. As more becomes known, you will be in a better position to reap the rewards of having the option of using psychedelics to enhance your health and wellbeing.

420 with PNW – Psychedelics Could Hold the Key to Future Mental Health Care

June 15, 2020 17:10:46

Interest in psychedelics is spiking not just among the general population but even in the scientific and mental health communities. Several indicators point to the fact that these substances may hold the key to the future of mental health care as the following analysis shows.

Investor Interest is Spiking Despite the Current COVID-19 Pandemic

Most industries, including the marijuana industry, have seen declining investor interest amidst the turmoil triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic which has brought economies to a near crawl. However, psychedelics seem impervious to these goings on and a lot of investor activity has continued to take place.

For example, Champignon Brands Inc. (CSE: SHRM) (OTCQB: SHRMF) (FWB: 496) went public in Canada, and so did Mind Medicine Inc., which notably managed to raise $24 million before its listing during the pandemic. The list of psychedelics companies generating funds during this turbulent time goes on and on while investor interest in lots of other industries seems to have screeched to a halt.

This investor intrigue goes to show how huge the future of psychedelics in mental health care is likely to be, especially when viewed together with the other signs that bode well for this industry.

Regulators Are Making Psychedelic Research Easier

If you have been following the cannabis industry for some time, you may be painfully aware of how federal regulators have been making the scientific community run around in circles before getting the nod to conduct needed research on marijuana.

Needless to say, those regulatory bottlenecks have made it harder for the industry to progress as quickly as it would have since the absence of sufficient research prevents cannabis products from gaining mainstream acceptance, especially in the medical community.

Psychedelics are faring a lot better, and some analysts are even saying regulators are rolling out the red carpet for researchers in this field. For example, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) designated a psychoactive compound (called psilocybin) found in mushrooms as a “Breakthrough Treatment” in 2018 and 2019 to treat depression. This coveted status allows drug developers access to greater regulatory support, and the review of the final drugs developed is fast-tracked.

With such regulatory support, it wouldn’t be surprising to see psychedelics play a dominant role in mental health care in future.

Mental Health Issues Are on the Rise

Currently, about 30% of all cases of depression are unresponsive to existing treatments. Given that approximately 16.2 million Americans struggle with depression, and the fact that a spike in the number of these cases is likely to be registered in the aftermath of the Coronavirus pandemic, demand for alternative treatments will be high, and psychedelics could play a big part in addressing that demand.

The fact that regulators are supporting research into these substances shows that the scientific community already recognizes the massive role that they can play in treating conditions like PTSD, clinical depression and other mental health disorders. It is therefore no wonder that COVID-19 or no COVID-19, the psychedelic industry is taking steps to cement its position in mainstream society and medicine.
