Nearly 7 in 10 Americans Report Using Telehealth Services This Year

September 7, 2021 09:26:04

Recently released consumer data shows that almost 65% of broadband households in the United States have used a telehealth service this year. This is a significant increase from previous data which indicated that in 2019, only 15% of broadband households in the country had used a telehealth service.

Parks Associates, the global research company that reported these findings, will share its data on healthcare trends on Aug. 31–Sept. 1, 2021, during the Connected Health Summit: Consumer Engagement and Innovation. The event, which is held every year, will feature sessions that highlight the revolutionary changes in the use of connected devices by consumers to manage health, changes in the reimbursement and regulatory landscape and changes in healthcare generally, as well as insights on healthcare models designed for home use.

The first session of this event will examine data reflecting the demand, use and consumer familiarity with connected health devices and telehealth services. In addition to having an interactive panel, this session will feature a Q&A session with the senior vice president of Optum Labs, Dr. David Cook, as well as a presentation by the director of external affairs at Scripps Health, Susan Taylor.

Taylor revealed that her presentation will call attention to how technology was changing the way healthcare is delivered, adding that the most important thing was the compassionate human connection shared between patients, nurses and doctors.

The interactive panel features the following participants:

  • Doctor on Demand’s vice president of medical affairs Dr. Prentiss Taylor
  • Amwell medical director Mia Finkelston
  • Everise’s vice president of healthcare solutions Rob Deal
  • Validic’s chief operating officer Brian Carter
  • Northwell Health vice president of telehealth services Iris Berman

In pre-event remarks, Carter noted that the pandemic forced many organizations to make digital health programs a priority, adding that most organizations were now working towards developing digital health management programs at scale. Deal stated that smart home evolution had substantial effects on the healthcare industry for both providers and insurers and allowed for better member and patient experiences, sophisticated risk modelling and greater proactive care.

Finkelston also mentioned prior to the event that virtual medical care’s efficiency, low cost and ease of use made it an essential option for modern health care, noting that the main goal now was to ensure that clinicians believed in its quality and utility and everyone who needed it would be able to access it easily.

The annual event is being sponsored by Everise, Essence and Alarm.com, and is set to begin on Aug. 31, 2021.

The COVID-19 outbreak has done a lot to accelerate the uptake of virtual health services, but the innovative solutions provided by companies such as RYAH Group Inc. (CSE: RYAH) also deserve credit since those solutions and devices have made it possible for various telehealth services to be delivered.
