What You Need to Know About CBD and Varicose Veins

Over the past few years, cannabidiol (CBD) has emerged as one of the most versatile medicines on the market. At least that’s what people say. According to anecdotal evidence and some scientific research, cannabidiol is effective against a variety of conditions, ranging from chronic pain and high blood pressure to insomnia and anxiety. The list is almost endless, and although most of these claims haven’t been scientifically proven yet, a lot of people swear by CBD.

Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins. According to the Chicago Vein Institute, there are over 40 million people in the United States suffering from varicose veins. Although their cause is unknown, aging plays a large part in bringing varicose veins about and is usually a sign of a larger issue.

Eric S. Hager from the Society for Vascular Surgery says that women are more predisposed to varicose veins. “Women, women who have had multiple children, and obese persons are at a higher risk.” The condition is also more common among women who are overweight with a BMI greater than 30. Family history also increases your chances of getting the condition.

According to the American Vein and Lymphatic Society, varicose veins happen when there’s inefficient blood flow caused by weak flow. This reduces blood flow to the heart, and a lot of the blood remains in your legs. So, does CBD have any sort of effect against varicose veins?

Maybe.

A study published by the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology in 2013 stated that cannabidiol shows promise as a therapy for the cardiovascular system. The study says that cannabidiol could reduce vascular tension, or ‘vasorelaxation’.

According to Princeton Vascular, CBD is full of omega-3 fatty acids, and on top of decreasing the itching, burning, and pain caused by varicose veins, but it can also help improve appearance, as long as the patient is under the care of a board-certified vein specialist.

“The use of hemp oil has been reported to decrease the local itching, burning, pain from spider veins and can be applied to the skin directly. Anecdotally, it has also been reported to improve the appearance of spider veins.”

However, while cannabidiol can impact cardiovascular health in a positive way, an August 2019 study found that smoking marijuana e-cigarettes can damage blood vessels after just a single-use. Thirty-one individuals took an MRI before and after vaping marijuana. The MRIs taken before showed healthy blood flow, while the ones taken after showed reduced blood flow.

As with all things CBD, more research is needed before we can confidently say it can work against varicose veins. However, the chemical can help reduce some of the symptoms such as itching, burning, and pain, and it can also help improve appearance.

Experts opine that it is worthwhile to follow the recommendations often made by various CBD companies, such as SinglePoint Inc. (OTCQB: SING), advising users to try different products while keeping their doctors informed about any changes they experience in the process of finding remedies for their health conditions.
