420 with CNW – Coronavirus Pandemic Causes a Spike in Marijuana College Enrollment

September 1, 2020 15:25:38

The COVID-19 pandemic brought about the closure of many businesses, with industries suffering and economies struggling to recover from the impact of restrictions and lockdowns.

When the pandemic began, marijuana was considered an essential business. Now, with millions in lockdown around the world, many are seeking to grow their portfolio by signing up for classes in the Cannabis Training University (“CTU”).

Jeff Zorn, the CEO of CTU, which is the first and oldest as well as the largest online cannabis college in the world, states that Cannabis Training University has been registering an average of 1,000 new students every month since the beginning of the pandemic, an increase from the 500 student enrollment they were seeing. He adds that most of the students are from Canada and the U.S.

On March16, 2020, it was reported by Statista, which is an online statistics portal, that recreational marijuana sales in California has grown by almost 159%. This was in comparison to March 16, 2019. In Colorado and Washington State, sales had also grown by 46% and 100% respectively by the same date.

Headset, an analytics site that provides market and retail insights to marijuana retailers, stated that marijuana sales in the U.S. had increased rapidly in mid-March, with the growth in sales climaxing at 64%.

With more states moving toward cannabis legalization and the industry growing thus creating demand for skilled employees, it makes sense for people to see the industry as a business opportunity and acquire the necessary skills to learn all they can about the industry as well as the product. It is therefore not a surprise that CTU has recorded a 108% growth in enrollment during this period.

So, what is the CTU?

The Cannabis Training University is headquartered in Denver, Colorado and was established to provide extensive marijuana education to everyone in the world.

The college has trained and certified thousands of students from more than 20 countries across the globe. Their education model allows anyone from anywhere in the world to access their content and educate themselves.

Jeff Zorn, who is a graduate of the school as well, launched CTU in 2009 after leaving corporate medical sales. He stated the reason for this being his traumatic brain injury and how he had used marijuana to recover.

He speculates that with the increase in job loss, many will venture into the marijuana industry.

In addition to teaching, the university also provides staff training for companies in the industry.

However, one should note that as marijuana is still illegal in most states, this makes the college unaccredited. Therefore, one cannot apply for government student loans/grants to help pay for tuition but individuals with marijuana-related convictions can attend these colleges, even though they may find it hard to get a job in the sector because of their record.

While there are no state requirements for those who wish to be employed in this sector, some states ask for state level certifications for role such as bud tending.

To get employment in this sector, managers may prefer applicants that are:

  • Knowledgeable
  • Versatile
  • Flexible
  • Patient
  • Can persevere
  • Have people skills
  • Are confident
  • Have certification

Furthermore, the college only requires that the individual enrolling is 18 years of age or older.

CTU also provides a certificate as well as the knowledge of an extensive cannabis program for about $1,000. The rates are the same across the globe and students are allowed to learn at their own pace.

Sector players like Cannabis Global Inc. (OTC: CBGL) must be glad that people are looking to the marijuana industry for new sources of employment amid this pandemic.
