420 with CNW – One Month In, Medical Marijuana is Doing Wonders for Louisiana Patients

September 10, 2019 15:20:58

Medical marijuana started being available to certified patients in Louisiana on August 6 and despite a stuttering start, patients are largely happy with what transformations they have experienced after using medical cannabis for their conditions.

Alex Domino, aged 70, was the first patient to buy medical marijuana when it became legal in the state. He says that while he didn’t have any specific expectations of how medical marijuana would change his life, he now admits that the products have transformed his outlook on life.

Domino is a colon cancer survivor who has had to deal with insomnia and anxiety, a direct result of the cancer and the conventional treatment he received for it.

These symptoms made him to go online in search for a solution that would give him some relief, and that was how he was accidentally drawn into the world of medical marijuana. Today, he wakes up refreshed after the medicine helped him to get some sleep.

Domino is one of the more than 1,500 patients who have so far used medical marijuana in Louisiana from the time it became commercially available in the state early in August. The only active medical marijuana grower in Louisiana estimates that close to 5,000 people have visited a licensed facility to find out whether marijuana can help with their condition.

Dr. Victor Chou, the first medical marijuana doctor in Baton Rouge, has about 600 patients. He says that from this number, eight in ten report that they have experienced positive benefits after using medical marijuana.

The doctor has had to shift to larger premises and rig them out with bigger cabinets in order to cope with the increasing demand from patients.

He says that the positive reports from patients not only make him validated in his belief in the efficacy of medical marijuana, but he is also very happy that so many patients have a chance to hope again after getting some relief from their symptoms once they started using medical marijuana.

He hopes that since medical marijuana is now legally available, more products will become available and the prices will start to come down so that even those patients who couldn’t try the products because of the current price can afford them.

As for the 20 percent patients who report that they haven’t benefited from the medical cannabis products they tried, Dr. Chou says that it is normal that some people will not respond to a certain medicine due to the differences between how our bodies respond to the substances that we provide them with. This is similar to what is seen in conventional medicine, and that is why a prescription can be changed if the current one isn’t triggering the desired outcomes in a patient.

As for Alex Domino, he feels that he can live to be 106 now that he feels so calm. He encourages other patients to give medical marijuana a try, and this seems to auger well for the entire industry in the state.

Industry watchers think that marijuana industry players like Grapefruit Boulevard Investments Inc. (OTCQB: IGNG) and Green Growth Brands Inc. (CSE: GGB) (OTCQB: GGBXF) are glad to see Louisiana patients accessing medical marijuana and benefitting from it.
