In a bid to reduce carbon emissions and the impact they have on the planet, several developed countries have announced plans to phase out internal combustion engine (“ICE”) automobiles in favor of electric vehicles (“EVs”) during the next decade or so. The UK has what is perhaps the most ambitious plan of all: to ban the sale of new fossil fuel vehicles by 2030 to help electrify roads across Britain. This would require automakers to stop selling new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030, allowing the sale of hybrid cars and vans that produce minimal emissions from their tailpipe.
However, according to a new study, the UK still has a long way to go before widespread EV adoption is a reality. Despite the impending ban on internal combustion engine-powered vehicles, only 8%, or fewer than one in eight, UK drivers see themselves driving a fully electric EV. The new study from Kwik Fit surveyed 2,003 UK adults and found that charging proved to be a barrier for a majority of them.
