Educational App That Demonstrates Psychedelics Effects on the Brain Launches

March 26, 2021 11:16:11

Psychedelic drugs such as psilocybin mushrooms have been used for centuries in various cultures across the globe before becoming popular in the Western world in the 1960s. Recently, the substances, most of which are naturally occurring substances, have been utilized in research studies in various parts of the world, with the objective being to help develop treatments for various mental health conditions.

For instance, a study conducted by researchers from Johns Hopkins Medicine found that two doses of psilocybin produced large and fast reduction in the depressive symptoms of study participants, with some achieving remission through a one month follow-up.

This week, Red Light Holland Corp and Radix Motion launched an educational VR (virtual reality) application that demonstrates the effects of different psychedelics on an individual’s brain. The application is known as Wisdom.

As part of the learning experience, Wisdom offers models of the receptor that is influenced by psychedelics: the 5ht2a neuronal receptor. This allows you, the user, to take the psilocybin molecule, place it in the receptor and observe what happens. The application utilizes the great power of virtual reality to show some of the phenomenological sensations that individuals experiences such as synesthesia.

Wisdom is recounted by Russell Peter, a Canadian comedian, who provides facts on the VR journey. Users are encouraged to interact with the surroundings by dancing or playing music.

Radix Motion CEO Sarah Hashkes, who is also a published psychedelic researcher, said in a statement that with psychedelics becoming more accessible, it was extremely important that people be able to access the science of how these psychedelic substances affected the brain, adding that the presence of tons of research, which shows that the best way to learn is through play and fun, had them center their attention on those aspects when developing Wisdom.

Hashkes revealed that it had been a wonderful experience to test the application and observe the pleasure on players’ faces, including the seasoned virtual reality players.

Red Light Holland CEO Todd Shapiro stated that the application was another piece of the company’s Digital Care program, which combined human innovation and cutting-edge technology to encourage information, education and the responsible use of the company’s iMicrodose packs. Shapiro noted that while the virtual reality experience was initially designed for Smartshop customers in the Netherlands, the application’s acceptance on Steam would allow it to be shared with the whole world.

Wisdom was launched via Steam for Valve Index, Oculus Rift and HTC vive on March 17.

As more and more people seek out information about psychedelics from apps such as the Wisdom App, lots of companies are investing resources in developing therapeutic products, which will address the needs of the population that has awakened to the therapeutic potential of psychedelics. One such company is XPhyto Therapeutics Corp. (CSE: XPHY) (OTCQB: XPHYF) (FSE: 4XT). The company is expanding its programs geared at developing mechanisms to manufacture pharmaceutical psychedelics on a large scale.
